GOODBYE TO ICONS

The last week was one of the most surreal of my life.
Australia lost two of its true legends in Steve Irwin and Peter Brock.
Both men tragically lost there lives doing the things they loved most, taken by freakish accidents.

THE CROCODILE HUNTER

Steve Irwin was an inspiration to us all. He had tremendous views on conservation and the protection of all animals. He stuck to what he believed in no matter what, he was widely criticised for the "Baby Bob Incident" but he was just doing what his dad had done with him.

Steve Irwins "Australia Zoo" is a remarkable place and I enjoyed my visit there 2 years ago tremendously, unfortunately Steve wasnt present that day but the whole staff share in Steves attitude and enthusiasm in presenting there much beloved and cared for animals.

Lets hope that Steve's legacy lives on and although his children are currently too young to step straight into dads shoes, im sure under the careful guidance of Steves dad and there mum Terri, Bindi and Bob will one day take over the family business.

More importantly its upto each and every one of us to pitch in and help keep Steves beliefs alive and well.

For those who dont approve of Steve's ways then you have your opinions, and at this time they need to be kept to yourself. You had your chance to plead your case, but 500 million tv viewers the world over plus many many more fans have spoken, the Jury is out.

Germaine Greer your pathetic effort to grab some attention is sickening, you will win no fans acting this way. You are truly one of the saddest most pathetic individuals on earth.

Steve your memory will live on in all of us for a very long time, your messages will not go unheard, rest peacefully knowing that your time on earth may have been short but far from wasted.

Deepest sympathies to Steves family and friends. The crew at Australia Zoo you are very brave for carrying on just as Steve would have wanted.

May the crocs in heaven be big and cranky, just how Steve would want them.

Steve Irwin 1962 - 2006 RIP

KING OF THE MOUNTAIN

Peter Geoffrey Brock or "Brocky" as he was known to us all was also tragically taken from us during the past week. Brocky also was doing what he loved when tragedy struck.

When I think of Peter Perfect I think of one thing only "BATHURST".
9 times he has conquered the mountain in 1972,1975,1978, 1979,1980,1982,1983,1984,1987

He also won the sandown unduro 9 times in 1973,1975,1976,1977,1978,1979,1980,1981,1984

Peter Brocks accomplishments at Bathurst will never be beaten, and thus his legend will live forever.
I was in support of naming the race after him although it looks now that authorities are not keen to pursue this idea, surely a significant part of the track should be renamed to honour his accomplishments, surely the Peter Brock s's or the Peter Brock Skyline wouldnt be out of order.

I remember as a kid having BMX races in our street, and it was always Bathurst, everyone wanted to be Peter Brock, you could guarantee a fight was going to decide who was Brocky.
Brocky in his latter years came to tassie and raced in the Targa, as well as in the Nations cup where Brocky ran his Monaro around Symmons Plains.

May we never witness a week like that again
