The only High point of the world cup was this smashing heatbutt by Zinedine Zidane right on the chest of serial hack Marco Materazzi.
Zinedine Zidane responded to something Materazzi said which Zidane wont repeat, he believes his sister and mother dont need to know what terrible things were said about them. Materazzi wont admit to saying anything because he is gutless.
The world cup was lacking a talking point until 10 minutes from the end of 64 games. For all the wrong reasons now world cup 2006 will be remembered. Marked by controversial referee decisions and more diving than an olympic pool program the cup got off to a slow start, for us Aussies a round 1 come from behind defeat of Japan surely the highlight.
The time didnt work out so well for us Australians as most games started well into the AM meaning it was hard to stay up and keep tabs on the action every night.
After Australia were controversially bundled out of the cup by a 90th minute dive by Grosso from Italy in the first kock out stage, the world cup finals came and went for me, I didnt bother to watch another game, I checked the scores on the net the next morning but that was all for me. If SBS had run replays during the afternoons rather than a 90 minute highlights pack of all 3 games the world cup may have contained some more interest.
Back to the headbutt.
Materazzi deserved it and the only dissapointing thing for me was that Zidane didnt land it on the bridge of his nose and knock the slime bag out. I recently ran a search on www.yourtube.com for Materazzi and found a few videos of high interest, Materazzi is a serial offender something in the mould of the infamous Vinnie Jones, I saw 3 videos that caught my eye,
Video 1: Materazzi runs behind a player, throws an elbow and as he falls over kicks the guy to stop him from going past.
video 2: Kicks a guy in the groin, enough said
Video 3: Elbows a player in the eye in the penatly box as a free kick is coming in, the player who was hit went down and didnt not get up, his eye ballooned and bleeding profusely.
I encourage FIFA to investigate fully and suspend Materazzi for a Racial slur, The same racial slur would find you suspended in any other world sport.
